Current state of rivers
As of April 2003, there were 33 river systems in the city of Osaka totaling approximately 146.4 kilometers in length. The municipal government is responsible for the management of six Class A River Systems, four secondary rivers, and four regular rivers. With respect to the Shirokita River, a Class A river system managed by the governor of Osaka Prefecture, the city of Osaka has undertaken construction and maintenance work pursuant to Article 16.3 of the River Law and certain management tasks pursuant to Osaka prefectural ordinances.
