Current state of roads
The road network in the city of Osaka comprises 11,773 roads totaling 3,828 kilometers in length and 36.7 square kilometers in area (as of April 1, 2005; excluding national expressways and specially designated national highway sections). These roads can be classified into three types: national highways other than designated sections, prefectural roads, and municipal roads.
Expressways running through the city of Osaka consist of the Hanshin Expressway (11 lines, 85 kilometers) and the Kinki Expressway (1 line, 4.5 kilometers).
