As part of its efforts to promote technical exchanges with external organizations, Osaka City Waterworks Bureau regularly participates in a wide array of academic meetings and symposia for public sharing of information.

National Waterworks Research Meeting (Japan Water Works Association)

For instance, Osaka City municipal employees participate every year in the national waterworks research conference and symposium sponsored by the Japan Water Works Association and have so far presented many research papers. In FY 2007, the Osaka City government submitted and presented 10 research papers at the conference held in Kushiro City, Hokkaido, from May 23 to May 25, 2007.

• Studies on optimal post-ozone injection control based on product of ozone concentration and exposure time (CT value)
• Research on actual state of agricultural chemicals and decomposition products in source water and treatability of agricultural chemical-added source water at high-level water purification demonstration plant
• Studies on impact of run-up tsunami (tidal waves) caused by Tonankai/Nankai (Southeast Sea/South Sea) Earthquake on water intake in the Yodo River
• Studies on water distribution pipeline damage prediction
• The Management of Free Residual Chlorine Concentration in the Distribution Area of Osaka City

International conferences

Since 1958, the Waterworks Bureau has been involved in information exchanges with countries offering advanced water services, while also sharing information on Osaka City’s waterworks technologies with the world through international conferences including the World Water Congress, the ASPAC Regional Conference, the International Water Quality Conference, the US-Japan Workshop on Urban Earthquake Hazard Mitigation, and the US-Japan Water Quality Managers EMeeting. In FY2006, the Waterworks Bureau made a presentation about research results on the water purification process and risk management of Osaka City’s waterworks at the 5th World Water Congress hosted by the International Water Association (IWA) from September 11 to 15. The Bureau also participated in the 7th International Symposium on Water Supply Technology held in Yokohama from November 22 to 24 and made a presentation at the session “Advanced technologies and appropriate management for water distribution. E
