In recent years, the heat island phenomenon has become an increasingly serious issue in Osaka City. To combat this problem, the city government is currently promoting the creation of linkages between the city’s heat metabolism and water metabolism that make use of the advantages of water, including the greening of rooftops and walls, spraying roads with treated drains water, and sprinkling. As one aspect of the “environmentally conscious business operations Eset out in the Waterworks Bureau Management Policy, the Bureau is promoting the widespread adoption of tap water mist dispersal, which utilizes the characteristics of the waterworks system as a network laid out throughout the region transporting water that can be used for aerial dispersal. The following three specific projects are being implemented.

Mist dispersal is a technology that involves spraying pressurized water through ultra-fine nozzles (of the order of several tens of microns) into the air to generate an artificial mist. The water is efficiently vaporized (evaporated), extracting heat from its surroundings as vaporization heat and effectively cooling the space in which it is sprayed.
