In December 2004, a hydroelectric power generation unit with a capacity of 253 kW was installed at Nagai Distribution Plant. This uses the residual water pressure of water flowing into a service reservoir, with the objective of putting unused energy to work effectively.
The power generated is used to help provide the motive energy that drives the distribution pump, reducing the consumption of commercial electricity. Hydroelectric power generation is expected to produce about 1.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity a year.
