Planned Events by the Osaka City Waterworks Bureau
When the cherry trees at the Kunijima Purification Plant are in bloom, the grounds are opened to the public so that everyone can enjoy their beauty. Along the 460-m path are planted 160 Somei Yoshino cherry trees, which adjoin those of the neighboring Asuka-cho Park to create a cherry-blossom promenade 800 m long.
During this period, matcha green tea made with tap water will be offered to visitors in the Water Museum (except on days when the museum is closed).
We welcomed 60,859 visitors to the 2008 Cherry Blossom Promenade. Thank you all for coming.
The Osaka City Waterworks Bureau holds a yearly competition for elementary school children to submit artworks on the theme of water or waterworks.
We received numerous entries for the FY2008 competition during the application period, which ran from July 1 to September 16. These works are being judged by art specialists, and the winners and runners-up will receive their awards at a ceremony to be held in the Water Museum.
How is the water made that we use every day? Where does it go afterwards? The Water Flow Tour, offered in conjunction with the Public Works Bureau, enables participants to experience the process whereby the familiar substance of water is brought to their homes and returned again to the natural environment, via tours of a water purification plant and a sewage treatment plant as well as a trip along the Okawa River on an amphibious bus, in order to raise their awareness and deepen their understanding of the importance of preserving water quality and the existence of water itself.
※ The FY2008 tour was held on August 5. We are grateful to all the many people who applied.
