Since March 2000, the Osaka Waterworks Bureau has supplied customers throughout Osaka City with highly purified tap water, which, in addition to conventional treatment, has undergone treatment with ozone and granular activated carbon.
The Bureau has been selling “Honmaya, Ehighly purified tap water, in PET bottles. According to the results of a water-tasting survey conducted at the Bureau’s events, 60% of those responding said that Honmaya is delicious, while only 20% or so said that they drink tap water without adding any treatment. In compliance with the Waterworks Law and other relevant laws and regulations, our tap water is subject to stricter controls than mineral water, thereby greatly exceeding the water quality standards. Our tap water is therefore safe to drink. Unfortunately, however, some survey results indicate that many people have an image of tap water as not being safe to drink without further treatment.
The Osaka City Waterworks Bureau therefore produced Honmaya, delicious bottled water produced in Naniwa (Osaka), confident that if people drink Osaka tap water, they will understand how good it is. We are marketing this product in the hope that as many people as possible will taste it and realize the deliciousness and safety of their tap water.
The Bureau contributes two yen per sold bottle of Honmaya to the Osaka City Fund to Promote Culture and Visitor Attractions, so as to help develop Osaka into a cultural city that delights visitors.
We hope that everyone will try Honmaya and realize the virtues of the safe and delicious tap water of Osaka City.
