On December 26, 2005, the Osaka City Waterworks Bureau became the first organization in Japan to receive Water Quality Testing Good Laboratory Practice (Waterworks GLP) Certification, which has guaranteed the safety of the City’s drinking water, enabling its customers to use tap water in full assurance of its quality.
The Japan Water Works Association grants Water Quality Testing Good Laboratory Practice (Waterworks GLP) Certification to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of water quality testing. To obtain this certification for water quality testing conducted by the Water Examination Laboratory of Osaka City, in September 2004 the Waterworks Bureau began to establish a water quality testing and control system that would meet the certification standards, and commenced operating the system on July 1, 2005. Subsequently, as a result of a strict certification procedure, including on-site examinations by the Waterworks GLP Certification Examination Team of the Japan Water Works Association, the Waterworks GLP Certification Committee decided to grant certification to the Waterworks Bureau, having highly evaluated the reliability and technologies of Osaka City’s drinking water quality testing.
The Waterworks Bureau continues to take all possible measures to always deliver safer and more delicious water to its customers, measures that include Advanced Water Treatment System introduction and thorough water quality testing from all angles, using leading-edge facilities and advanced testing techniques. By adopting this Waterworks GLP, the Bureau has been able to improve the level of its water quality testing and inform its customers of more reliable water quality testing results.
●About GLP
GLP, which stands for Good Laboratory Practice, guarantees users that testing and experimentation, including water quality testing and animal experiments for drug development, have been carried out accurately and properly. In Japan, GLP is currently used by various sectors, such as pharmaceutical, agrochemical and food hygiene sectors.
●About Waterworks GLP
Recognizing the importance of ensuring testing accuracy and the reliability of food, pharmaceutical products and drinking water, the Japan Water Works Association established Water Quality Testing Good Laboratory Practice (Waterworks GLP) so that water examination laboratories could introduce it as a means to ensure reliable testing results. The organization established the Waterworks GLP by gearing the general requirements of the ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 international standards to the realities of drinking water quality testing by water service providers.
