FY2009 Water Quality Testing Results

FY2009 Drinking Water Quality Testing Results

It is vital that tap water always be reliable and safe to drink. At our Water Examination Laboratory, we carry out detailed quality testing of water, including raw water from the Yodo River, water at each stage of the purification process in purification plants, and tap water supplied to various parts of Osaka City, every day throughout the year. We also monitor water quality in 40 different locations around the City continuously, 24 hours a day, using automatic remote monitoring devices.
Drinking water tested from April to September 2009 met all requirements, including standard values for Water Quality Standard Items and complementary Water Quality Management Target Items.
Meanwhile, on April 1, 2009, the number of Water Quality Standard Items totaled 50 after 1,1-dichloroethylene was deleted from the list of Water Quality Standard Items (and added to the list of Water Quality Management Target Items) and cis-1,2-dichloroethylene was relisted as “Cis-1,2-dichloroethylene and trans-1,2-dichloroethylene.”

  1. Values with * in the rightmost columns were measured at water purification plant outlets; other values were measured at water faucets in 21 locations around the City.
  2. Total trihalomethanes are the sum of the concentrations of chloroform, dibromochloromethane, bromodichloromethane and bromoform.
  3. Chlorous acid and chlorine dioxide were not measured because chlorine dioxide is not used in the water purification process.
  4. In Osaka City, the levels of 99 different agricultural chemicals are measured, and a guideline value is set for each agricultural chemical. A target value for “Agricultural chemicals” is set for the sum of the ratios of detected values to the guideline values of all individual agricultural chemicals.
