Water meter reading takes place once a month.

Water fees are calculated and charged eachmonth on the basis of water consumption as measured by the monthly water meter reading.

 

Water meter reading

The meter indicates the volume of water consumed. The white digits on a black background in the upper part of the water meter show the volume in cubic meters, while the red digits on a white background and the red pointers show the volume in liters. The water charge is calculated in cubic meters, so if you want to check your own water consumption you may prefer to just read the white digits on black background. (This may not apply to multi-unit dwellings, etc.)

• Volume of water consumed
  The volume of water consumed can be determined by subtracting the previous reading from the current reading.
• Water Use Notice
  After meter reading is completed, you will be given a “Water Use Notice Efor your confirmation.

 

For owners and managers of housing complexes, such as condominiums and apartment buildings

In Osaka City, the following programs are available for owners and managers of housing complexes, such as condominiums and apartment buildings, that use water service.
※To enroll in one of these programs, you must submit required documents and meet certain conditions.

Housing Complex Special Water Fee Program

Each housing complex in Osaka City, such as a condominium, has one water meter installed by the Waterworks Bureau. Normally, after the water meter is read, the water and sewage service rates for the entire building are calculated and charged on the basis of total water consumption, irrespective of the number of households. However, the Complex Housing Special Water Fee Program is available upon application. Under this program, water and sewage service rates for the entire building are calculated using a formula based on the number of households and the assumption that each household uses an equal amount of water. Individual Household Metering and Billing Program

If desired by the owner and all households of a housing complex equipped with individual water meters, the Individual Household Metering and Billing Program is available upon application from the owner. Under this program the Waterworks Bureau reads each water meter and directly charges the respective household for its water and sewage service.
※This program is available for buildings comprising two or more residential units. (For buildings that house shops, residential units must comprise about 60% of the total floor area.)

Program for Waterworks Bureau Management of Water Meters Privately Installed in ondominiums

Conventionally, all water meters privately installed by individual condominium unit owners have been maintained at the owner’s expense. In April 2008, however, upon application from condominium unit owners who meet certain conditions, the Waterworks Bureau began to maintain and manage such water meters.

[Main conditions for enrolling in the program]
※Applicant must be a condominium unit owner.
※Applicant must live in a condominium covered by the Waterworks Bureau’s Individual Household Metering and Billing Program.
※Each water meter must function normally and have a valid period of at least one year from the date of application.
