Q
I’m going to move in shortly. How can I newly start water service?
A
To newly start water service, contact our Customer Center by phone or fax. You may also make arrangements for starting water service online by using the Osaka City Waterworks Bureau’s website. If you are a tenant of a private condominium, contact the owner or the condominium management company, who is supposed to carry out the necessary procedure for you.
Meanwhile, note that individual metering and billing by the Waterworks Bureau is not applicable to some private condominiums.
Q
I have just moved in, but I don’t have running water. What should I do?
A
Have you completed an application procedure to begin water service? If not, contact our Customer Center. If you still don’t have running water even after the procedure, a stop valve (or stop cock or stop lever) installed in front of a water meter may remain closed. In such a case, turn the stop valve counterclockwise (or turn the stop cock or stop lever to a position parallel to the pipe).
Q
I have running water, but should I still carry out the application procedure for water service?
A
If you live in a housing unit applicable to individual metering and billing by the Waterworks Bureau, you need to carry out an application procedure for water service. Contact our Customer Center to check your application status.
Meanwhile, if you live in a private condominium, contact the owner or the condominium management company to check your application status; they might have already completed the procedure for you.
Q
I’m going to move out. How can I suspend the water service?
A
To suspend water service, notify our Customer Center of the date of required suspension of service, the name of the service user and other relevant information in advance. On or after the date of service suspension, our staff will read your meter for the last billing. If you have paid your water bills by automatic bank transfer so far, the last water bill may be also automatically deducted from your account, or we may send a transfer form to your new address, if you wish.
Alternatively, you may choose to pay the last water bill directly to our staff at the premises on the day of your moving out. Note, however, that our staff may not be able to visit you on your requested date and time.
Meanwhile, if you are a tenant of a private condominium, contact the owner or the condominium management company to check the status; they might have already completed the procedure to suspend water service for you.
Q
How can I change an account name?
A
To change an account name, contact our Customer Center by phone or fax. The Customer Center needs to ask you about details (e.g. if you need billing adjustments before changing the account name).
Q
My water consumption has suddenly increased significantly. Can you tell me why?
A
(1) There are various possible causes for increased water consumption.
a. Changes in your water use circumstances, including increased family size for reasons such as birth of a child and temporary homecoming of family members, and increased frequency of laundry and bathing.
b. Water Leaks
(2) If you have not seen any changes in your water use circumstances or any visible signs of water leaks, invisible water leaks are a possibility. To detect any such water leaks within the boundary of your property from your water meter, turn all the faucets off and check the pilot mark on the water meter. If the pilot mark ø is rotating when you aren’t using any water, you may have a water leak. In such a case, contact our Customer Center. Our staff will visit your premises to check if you actually have water leaks. However, our staff are unable to visit multifamily housing units to check water leaks.
※ The pilot mark is a silver, star-shaped component that rotates on the water meter.
Q
How much water does a household use each day on average?
A
Home water consumption varies depending on factors such as the family structure, family size, and genders and ages of family members. Therefore, there is little point in attempting to calculate average home water consumption.
Q
Can I find out in advance when my water meter is read?
A
The business day of the month on which meter reading takes place is fixed for each customer. Contact our Customer Center to check the meter reading schedule. You can also find from “Water Use Notice Ewhen the next meter reading is scheduled.
Q
Can you deliver a “Water Use Notice Eto another address?
A
Notify our Customer Center of your new delivery address. Apart from a “Water Use Notice, Eyou may receive a postcard containing almost the same information as a “Water Use Notice. EIf you wish to receive such a postcard, inform us whether or not you still wish to continue receiving a “Water Use Notice.” If you wish to continue receiving a “Water Use Notice, Einform us of your requested delivery address.
Q
Can I choose which information is provided on a “Water Use Notice E
A
All you can choose is whether or not you wish to have “Amount to be charged Eand “Receipt for automatic payment by bank account Estated on a “Water Use Notice. E/p>
Q
I’d like to turn off the water. Can you tell me where the main stop cock is?
A
If you live in an ordinary house, look for an oval plastic or iron lid on the ground in front of or somewhere around your house. You can find the main stop cock under that lid.
If you live in multifamily housing such as a condominium, exit your front door. You are most likely to find a metal door for a utility piping space to the right or left of the front door. Most condominiums have electricity, gas and water meters inside this type of utility piping space. Open the metal door and look in the lower part of the space. You should see a round water meter there. Trace the pipe leading from the meter back or forward, to find the main stop cock or valve.
Q
Can you tell me where my water meter is?
A
Call our Customer Center and give your name, address and other relevant information. The Customer Center will check the location for you. If you live in a condominium or an apartment building constructed by the Japan Housing Corporation, you can find your water meter in a utility piping space with a metal door, to the right or left of your front door. For some old multifamily housing units, water meters may be located in other places.
Q
My condominium is provided with an automatic locking system. Do your meter readers have access permits to enter the building?
A
For most condominiums with automatic locking systems, remote devices showing meter readings of all units are installed outside the entrance. So our meter readers don’t have to enter these buildings to do their jobs.
For some condominiums without such devices, we obtain permits to enter buildings for meter reading requested by the owners or the condominium management associations. At the time of the contracts, they allow us to have keys or provide the passwords to enter the buildings. In the case that something unusual is found, we are supposed to obtain a permit to enter a building from the superintendent or other responsible person.
