Q
Am I charged the normal rate for any water that is lost through leaks?
A
We may reduce payment for the leaked water depending on the cause of the leaks. For more information, contact our Customer Center.
Q
I had a water leak repaired. Can you reduce my water bill?
A
We may reduce water bills depending on the situation. For more information, contact our Customer Center.
Q
Can I pay my repair fee by automatic bank transfer?
A
We are unable to accept repair fee payment by automatic bank transfer, because those who pay for repairs are not necessarily our water service users who have accounts with us. You are, therefore, requested to make your repair payment at a convenience store or financial institution using a transfer form sent to you.
Q
My faucet is dripping. What should I do?
A
A common cause of a dripping faucet is an aging tap washer. Check the washer and replace it with a new one if necessary. If the faucet still drips even after replacing the washer, you may need to replace the faucet with a new one.
To replace washers or faucets, consult your nearest plumber designated by the City of Osaka. If you need contact information about your nearest plumber, call our Customer Center. If you live in a multifamily housing unit, contact the owner or the management company.
Q
What should I do to stop water leaks from the flush toilet or water heater?
A
You can stop water leaks by closing the stopcock on the pipe leading to the flush toilet tank or the stopcock for the water heater. If you still cannot stop water leaks even after this, or don’t know where the stopcocks are, close the main stopcock in the meter box.
If you need to have your toilet repaired, contact a plumber designated by the City of Osaka. If you need contact information about your nearest plumber, call our Customer Center. For problems with your water heater, contact the water heater manufacturer.
Q
How can I detect water leaks?
A
You can detect water leaks by checking your water meter. If the pilot mark ø is rotating when you aren’t using water, there may be a water leak somewhere between the water meter and the faucets.
※The pilot mark is a silver, star-shaped component that rotates on the water meter.
Q
What should I do when water gushes from a broken pipe (if a water pipe bursts)?
A
As a quick-fix measure, close the main stopcock in the meter box to stop the water. If you cannot stop the water even after that, or if you cannot close the stopcock, take some temporary measures to prevent water from gushing out, such as wrapping the broken part in towels. Then contact a Waterworks Maintenance Center in your area. Meanwhile, you may have to pay for repairs if water leaks within the boundary of your property from your water meter.
Q
My water pressure is low. What should I do?
A
In the case of construction, maintenance or repair work that requires water service disruption going on nearby, you may have a low water pressure for the duration. If such work conducted by the Waterworks Bureau is likely to cause a low water pressure problem, residents in the affected areas will be informed in advance by distribution of fliers. However, unexpected areas may be affected. If you have such a problem without having been informed in advance, contact a Waterworks Maintenance Center in your area.
[What to do when water service is disrupted]
During water service disruption, close all faucets. When you turn on a faucet for the first time after water service is restored, rusty water or white-colored water containing air bubbles may run from the tap. In that case, let the water run for a while until it becomes clear.
Q
Rusty water is running from the tap. What should I do?
A
You may find rusty water running from the tap immediately after construction, maintenance or repair work that requires water service disruption is conducted nearby, or when water pressure causes rust on steel water supply pipes to flake off. If such work conducted by the Waterworks Bureau is likely to result in turbid water, residents in the affected areas will be informed in advance by distribution of fliers. However, unexpected areas may be affected. If you find rusty water running from the tap without having been informed in advance, contact a Waterworks Maintenance Center in your area

Q
My water service abruptly stopped. Can you fix it?
A
The most likely cause of water stoppage is pump failure. If there is actually something wrong with a pump, you need to contact the owner or the condominium management company, because only the superintendent can enter the pump room. In addition, we cannot determine who should pay for the repairs.
Another possible cause of water stoppage is construction, maintenance or repair work conducted nearby.
