The site of Nikenchaya (tea house)
and Ishibashi (stone-bridge)

[ Tamatsukuri ] by JR about 50m to the east
This was once the place of departure from Osaka toward the district of Nara and Ise (Mie Prefecture) by way of the Kuragarigoe Nara Road. There were two tea houses (chamise) named "Tsuruya" and "Masaya" situated between the passage of the Road, where those who were going to trip were sent off or bought the well-known sedge hat of Fukae's. "Tsuruya" survived until the 40th year of Meiji.
There is a road at the eastern side of the monument, running from the north to south, is the site of the Nekomagawa river which was used as a canal situated at the east side of the Osaka Castle. The stone bridge was over the road in the 8th year of Houei (1711) or 3rd year of Keian (1650), which was named Kuromonbashi (bridge beside the black gate). The stone stuff of the monument is the remnant of it. Kuromon was derived from the name of "Tamatsukuri Mon (gate)" of the Osaka Castle and it was painted black. This gate was moved to the Isshinji temple after the Summer battle of Osaka Castle but was burned to ashes in the World War.
