A Japanese classical scholar named Keichu (1640 -1701) entered the Buddhist priesthood in the Myohooji temple aged eleven and later became the chief priest of the temple, where he wrote the most important work "Manyodaishoki". When he was awarded for the work by Tokugawa Mitsukuni (1628 -1700), he spent all the money he received on restoration of the temple and giving relief of the people. It is regrettable that the historical scene was not left. | |
