| It is said that the descendant of Yamato
Kasanui family lived around here from ancient
times. The district was named "Suge
no Sato" (the place of sedge). Almost
all the people around here was engaged in
making sedge hats until the era of Meiji.
The peak period of making hats is in the
era of Edo and those who made a pilgrimage
to the Ise Shrine carried it with them. The
hat is nowadays contributed to the Ise Shrine
at the Shikinen Sengu Festival (the periodical
movement of the compound of the shrine) and
the Daijosai (the great Thanksgiving Festival
after the enthronement). The Fukae Inari Shrine's history dates back to the time when the ancestor of Kasanui family enshrined the divine spirit of Shimoteruhimeno-Mikoto and later the divine spirit of Inari Shrine was also enshrined. Toyotomi Hideyori (1593 -1615) ordered his subordinate Katagiri Katsumoto to reconstruct the shrine in the 8th year of Keicho (1603). But it was burned down in the Summer battle of Osaka Castle. |
