| @ We are able to read an account of
"Nihonshoki" in which the Emperor
Nintoku constructed a small bridge at Ikaitsu
in the 14th year of his reign. This is the
oldest bridge written in the historic document,
which was crossing over the Hiranogawa river
(the old name of the Yamatogawa river) and
there were lots of cranes living in this
neighborhood. So the bridge was later called
"Tsurunohashi" (crane's bridge).
When the dredging of the Hiranogawa river
was made in the 7th year Meiji, the wooden
bridge was changed into the stone one. We
are able to find a large monument in memory
of it which was made of the main part of
the pillar There is an account in which "Yokotsutsumi"
(bank) was constructed for flood control
in the 13th year of Nintoku. It is said that
the bank was at the site of the Yokonojinja
shrine and its neighborhood (9, 3-chome,
Tatsuminishi). |
