| This temple belongs to " Obaku "(the Zen sect) affiliation and it is also called only the Shariji temple. Once upon a time there was a rich man (Chouja) named Ikuno Chouja. He had a son who was not able to talk, so he appealed Shoutokutaishi for mercy. Shoutokutaishi received his appeal and made him spew out 3 Buddha's ashes to recover his health. Shoutokutaishi gave the ashes to the Horyuji, Shitennoji temple and Ikuno Chouja, so Chouja erected a temple within his residence to worship it. | |
