Suigan, whose name as a layman is Sumiyoshiya
Tarouemon, was born around here in the middle
of the Edo period He was naturally a man
of benevolence, so he later contributed a
lot, fixing and constructing roads and bridges
or so, for welfare of the people as a charitable
person. According to a historic document,
he constructed eleven stone bridges between
the first year Kyohou (1716) and the 5th
year of Genbun (1740). The Suiganbashi bridge
crossing over a flood-control channel of
the Hiranogawa river was named after him
and the land contributed by him at that time
is now under management of Nakagawa-cho Zaisanku
(ward for preservation of property). He was
dead in the 2nd year of Enkyo (1745). |
