| It is not known when the Hirano canal was constructed but it was made for self-defense, irrigation, drainage, flood-control in the strife-torn Age of Provincial Wars. The town was encircled by bank, the outside of it was encircled by canal, some places of the more outside of the canal were encircled by bank and canal. The canal was connected with the Hirano River, so transport of vessel was developed and it became a cause of prosperity. The town had thirteen gateways to and from various districts by way of the Roads So Hirano was an important position of transportation by water and land. Besides there was a harbour around Kokonoikeguchi and was crowded with many people because it was a landing place for the Kashiwarafune vessel. | |
