[ Higashitengachaya ] by Hankai Railway about 200m to the southeast
Faith of the God of Kumano was in great vogue from the middle of the Heian period to the first years of the Kamakura period . Many people from the Emperor and the aristocracy to the common made a pilgrimage visit to the Kumano Shrine . It could be called " Arino kumano moude ", for pilgrimage visit to the Kumano Shrine was like a procession of aunts . People crossing the Yodogawa river from Kyoto landed at Kubotsu ( Hakkenya, Chuo-ku, Osaka ) and continued to walk , through the Uemachi table land, dropping in some dotted places on their way called Oji where they worshipped the Shrine from a distance and took a break , to the three Kumano mountains (Wakayama Prefecture ). The Abe Ojijinja is a site of Oji that remains only in Osaka . The old Kumano Road is running in front of the shrine . Not only this area but also the west side of the Mandai ike , the Orionocho and its vicinity reminds us of the vestige of its former Road . The manifestation of the Road is being made lately .
