This museum was founded in December 1985 as a museum to house historical data on the Osaka citizen human rights movement. In December 1995,the Osaka Human Rights Museum, was re-opened as Japan's first comprehensive museum concerning human rights. The museums exhibitions of the museuwere revamped in May 2011, and now its permanent exhibitions deal with “discriminated community” issues (buraku mondai), women's issues, issues involving the physically challenged, and various racial issues. Occasionally there are special exhibits, and volunteer guides to provide information.
