Osaka Furitsu Taiiku Kaikan (Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium)

Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium is Japan’s first gymnasium, which was established in commemoration of the conclusion of the San Francisco Peace Treaty in December 1952 as the largest gymnasium in the East. This gymnasium was reconstructed because of its aging facility, and reopened in February 1987. Currently the facility attracts many people as a sports and cultural hall with four floors above the ground and two floors underground. Located in the Namba downtown district, the gymnasium boasts excellent accessibility from around the country, which enables this facility to be used often for international and national sports events. This facility is a well-known historic gymnasium of Japan, where exciting games are played almost every day. The facility is also a place where the March Grand Sumo Tournament, which heralds spring to Osaka, is held every year. Many fans enjoy exciting and thrilling games of Sumo. Opening time: 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
