?Take the side road at Ama-ga-saki for the three ferries: Nozato, Tsukuda and Kanzaki Shimo? (Setsuyo Kikan) goes a song popular in the Edo Period. The song testifies to how busy Ama-ga-saki road was as a side road of the Chugoku Kaido. It was a shortcut to Nakatsu-gawa, Kanzaki-gawa, Samondo-gawa and led to Ama-ga-saki Castle town.
?Nozato no Watashi? was the ferry boat landing on Nakatsu-gawa until the Kashiwano Bridge was built in 1876. With the dredging of Yodogawa River and land-fill of Nakatsu-gawa, Kashiwano Bridge had fulfilled its mission. A monument reading ?Watashino Bridge and Nozato Ferry Historical Site? carved on the corner stone from that bridge, can still be seen on a street corner near the river.
Nakatsu-gawa River Relics ( Nozato no Watashi)
In connection with the dredging of Yodogawa River, Nakatsu-gawa was filled in so nothing remains of the river itself, but a part of the shopping street at 1-chome Nozato corresponds to the right bank of Nakatsu-gawa River. Also, on a mound in the east section of Nozato Sumiyoshi Jinja Shrine precincts, a few relics from the right embarkment of Nakatsu-gawa can be seen. There is an Osaka City memorial monument reading ?Nozato no Watashi? located here.
