When TOKUGAWA Ieyasu, whose ancestors were of the Genji line, set out between 1573-1591 to pay his respects to the tutelar deity of the Minamoto family at Settsu Tada Jinja Shrine, fishermen of Tsukuda cooperated by providing him a boat to cross Kanzaki River. As a reward for this service, they received a special tax exemption from Ieyasu and at the same time received an order to spy on Osaka and supply fish to the Shogun. In this connection, between 1624 - 1644 some of the Tsukuda fishermen folk requested to be allowed to live in Edo Teppozu, which accounts for the place name Tsukuda-jima in Edo.
This relation between the Tsukuda fishermen and Ieyasu accounts for the fact that Tosho-gu (TOKUGAWA Ieyasu) is venerated at Tamino Jinja Shrine.
In this way, Tsukuda of Nishiyodogawa Ward are the head households (honke) of Tsukuda-jima, Tokyo, and Sumiyoshi Jinja Shrine in Tsukuda-jima, Tokyo, is a branch shrine of Tamino Jinja in Nishiyodogawa Ward and today there is a deepened relationship between the two districts.
In particular, on December 2, 1965. Tsukuda elementary schools in the two areas formed a sister school relationship and each year since then the two schools have held goodwill meetings.
