Applying the private sector’s creative ingenuity in community development

In the Osaka Bay area, the vitality of the private sector has been applied to revitalize this area by establishing visitor-oriented facilities such as the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, which is one of the world’s largest aquariums, and Universal Studios Japan®.

In recent years, efforts are progressing to create a model area for the environment and new energies. Efforts are also underway to form a global tourism hub that appeals to the world, such as by inviting an integrated resort (IR) comprising MICE functions and international entertainment facilities, hosting World Expo 2025, and constructing a home port for cruise liners within the Port of Osaka.

Forming a global tourism hub

The Osaka City Government, Osaka Prefectural Government and the business community jointly formulated the "Yumeshima Development Concept" and "Yumeshima Development Basic Policy" with the objective of forming a global tourism hub in Yumeshima that will boost the vitality of Osaka, Kansai.

Furthermore, World Expo 2025, which will be hosted on Yumeshima, is expected not only to serve as a catalyst that propels Osaka’s growth, but also to highlight the city’s attractiveness to the world.

Constructing a home port for cruise liners and strengthening the inner harbor’s revitalization

In aim of becoming a global tourism hub, measures are being taken at Chikko and Tempozan district such as constructing a home port for cruise liners and preparing to build a new waterfront. Also the vitality of the private sector will be applied not only to promote the proactive use of warehouses but also to rebuild the passenger terminal and old sheds which could lead to attracting many domestic and overseas visitors.
