Applying the private sector’s creative ingenuity in community development

Nakanoshima (The Symbol of the Water City Osaka is a hub for commerce, culture, education, and international exchange.)

For over many years, the Nakanoshima area has been known as the center of economy, culture and government. Even today, the core business functions are integrated here and it carries out a role as the base that spreads art and culture. In addition, Nakanoshima which is located between the Dojimagawa River and Tosaborigawa River, has become the island that symbolizes Aqua Metropolis, Osaka.

Capitalizing on the unique properties of the district, in addition to the existing business, culture, and MICE functions (Meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions), Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka and the Advanced Healthcare Innovation(Nakanoshima Qross) will be developed to establish an international business, cultural, academic, and exchange center.

Collaborating with private business operators in community development

Recently in Nakanoshima 2-chome and 3-chome, many high-rise office buildings that serve as central bases for business have been built while open spaces filled with greenery have also been installed. Also a multipurpose high-rise building was opened for operation. This building which includes a hall with 2,700 seats provides business, accommodation and commercial functions.

Furthermore, in the neighboring Nakanoshima 4-chome, the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka has opened, along with the opening of Nakanoshima Qross, an international hub for future medical care that promotes the industrialization of cutting-edge, future medical care and fosters contribution to the international community. This is being used as a catalyst for the creation of a city in which surrounding private development projects and development on city-owned land are being carried out in harmonious conjunction.

Additionally, in Nakanoshima 5-chome, we are proceeding with a land repurposing project to encourage high-quality private developers to help build an international base. We are also working with landowners on community development in view of the construction of the Naniwasuji Line and new station.

Osaka's cultural, artistic, and academic center

Nakanoshima 4-Chome area is expected to develop into a major museum district in Japan with the cooperation of the municipal science museum and the national international art museum as well as Osaka Nakanoshima Art Museum, which opens on February, 2022. An Advanced Healthcare Innovation(Nakanoshima Qross), Social and academic co-creation and a center for the arts will be also established on the site next to Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka.
