It
is not known exactly when this shrine was built; however, it is said that
it shares the god of Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine. In the past, Kawanabe
Hachiman's hall of worship and grounds were very spacious, and included
much of the land surrounding the current site; however, with the renovation
of the Yamato River, much of the shrine's lands were gobbled up by the
waterway. The shrine was appointed the village shrine in 1872.
