Both companies were founded on August, in the 2nd year of Meiji.
At that time, Goshos, or the big merchants, were being ruined because of the abolition of the silver standard of currency, the burdensome donation to the new Government, the bad debt to Daimyos.
The Meiji Government set up Osaka Branch of Trade and Commerce to improve commerce and Osaka Commerce for developing commerce and Transfer Company for supplying funds were founded under the guidance of the Osaka Branch.
But there was no way to do business with such organization only, so Commerce Company was turned over to Transfer Company in the 6th year of Meiji.
Commerce Company set an example for people to make enterprises in spite of its ruin.
On the other hand, Transfer Company supplied funds for other companies as well and issued a transfer bond of gold and silver, which had credit with people and was circulated well.
Transfer Company dissolved without profit in the 7th year of Meiji, partly because of the abolition of clans and establishment of prefectures (in the 4th year of Meiji).
However, this transfer company had the character of a modern bank and acted as a good mediator between Ryogaesyo (a money changer in the Edo era) and National Bank which was to be born in the 6th year of Meiji.
