Buson was born around here in the Kema
village. He went over to Edo about 17 or 18 and studied haikai (a seventeen-syllabled verse). He was good at painting in the Nanga style. He respected Basho so much that he made a tour to Togoku (the eastern part of Japan) of tracing Basho's marks. He was dead at 68 in the 3rd year of Tenmei(1783). The letter inscribed in the memorial is enlarged on his own handwriting. |
