The first water supply began from this Waterworks on the 13th of November, in the 28th year of Meiji.
People in Osaka used to make use of water directly drawn from the Yodogawa river or wells before that time.
So, there were often epidemics such as cholera prevalent and people were tormented.
The water supply works was completed.
The construction costs took 3 times as many as an annual budget of Osaka City at that time and as many as 3 years were required to have its ability of water supply for 610000 of people.
The water was pumped up from the works and conveyed to the pond of distribution in the Osaka Castle to be supplied by way of running down naturally.
It had often been extended to meet the demand of the residents with development of Osaka City but was replaced by the Kunijima Filtration Plant in September, the 4th year of Taisho.
