Sarugaku is the mother's body of Nogaku, dating back to the performing arts of Middle Ages of Japan, to serve rituals of the shrine and temple.
Enami Sarugaku had their base around here and served Sumiyoshi Shrine under its protection but later was replaced by Yamato Sarugaku and lost their power.
Enami Castle was small but it was hard to attack because of being naturally fortified by the Yodogawa river, the old Yamatogawa river and ponds.
From the Period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties we are able to find the name of the castle in the historical record.
By the way, Kusunoki Masashige's son Masayoshi once took position here in the 23rd year of Shohei(1368) and Miyoshi Chokei attacked Miyoshi Masanaga and his son at this castle in the internal strife of Hosokawa family in the 18th year of Tenmon(1649).
The eldest Hosokawa family line came to ruin by the strife.
