The Emperor Shomu designated the Todaiji
temple at Nara as the Sokokubunji temple(the
summary national temple), the Hokkeiji
temple as the Sokokubuniji(the summary national
convent) and set up numerous Kokubunji temples,
Kokubuniji temples across the country. The Settsukokubunji temple had been almost unknown before Rengemon(the letters of Renge style), Karakusamon-nokigawara(roof tiles with arabesque style) were excavated around here, where the presumed site of the Kokubunji temple was located. |
