The God of Toyouke-Okami and Wakeikazuchino-Okami
are enshrined in this shrine. It is said
that the foundation of this shrine dates
back to the Muromachi period (1336-1573).
This shrine was commonly named Muronomyojin
and later called Inarijinja and at last called
Kamatajinja in the 42nd year of Meiji. The
Muronomyojin has the same God to worship
as the Kamikamojinja (Kyoto). According to
legend, when the Muronomyojin in Banshu (Hyogo
prefecture) was to be founded , the residents
tried to invite the God of Kamikamojinja
and carried back the God's spirit on board,
but the vessel was hit by a storm. So it
was obliged to take refuge and settled here.
This is the origin of this shrine. At one
time there were big camphor trees flourishing
within the precincts of the shrine but they
were dead one after another and now a small
shrine was set beside the main building on
one of the big stamps. |
