The Rai family, a sword smith living in Kyoto, removed to take refuge here from turmoil between the Nancho and Hokucho (the south and north Emperor, 1336-1392) and strove to develop here and the vicinity. It is said that the family founded and worshipped the Sugajinja as the protective God around here. The God is enshrined now also in the Nakajimasosha shrine and the site of it is now a park where there is a big camphor tree aged 600 years. The tree is named a natural monument by Osaka prefecture (30m height, 1.6m diameter, above 30m extent of branches).
