| [ Sozenji ] by Hankyu Line about 200m to the north |
| It is said that this temple was founded
by Shotokutaishi (574-622) and at that time
the temple was only dedicated to a kannon.
Akamtsu Mitsusuke (1381-1441) killed the
shogunate Ashikaga Yoshinori (1394-1441)
in the 1st year of Kakitsu (1441) and when
he was on the run he buried the shogunate
in the neighborhood of the temple. So the
next shogunate Ashikaga Yoshikatsu (1443)
built cathedrals here and founded the temple
named Sozenji to let him rest in peace. The temple has an earth mound of the shogunate Yoshinori's neck, Hosokawa Garacia's grave, the brothers' Enjo's grave. The garden for tea ceremony which was reconstructed after World War II is rare, which is planted with tea trees. |
