Kunijima was an important location as a
base from the western provinces to Kyoto.
Hosokawa Harukata and Miyoshi Masanaga (1549)
and the others occupied the castle as their
advantageous position. When the castle was
abolished is unknown. We are able to find
that the address of a village section around
here remains the words of Honmaru (keep of
a castle) and Shiromichi (road of or toward
a castle) and so on and that the place which
is 1-2 m higher, 200 meters round. It is
said that this is the site of the Kunijima
Castle. |
