Since early times there were many ferries developed to cross the Yodogawa river and they were very profitable to the residents. According to the document of the Edo period named Setsuyogundan (published in the 14th year of Genroku, 1701), there were 15 ferries such as the Nagaranowatashi (the ferry of Nagara). The Heitanowatashi ferry had been made use of for about 300 years from about the 4th year of Enpou (1676) until the accomplishment of Toyosato Ohashi bridge in the 45th year of Showa (1970). It was run by Osaka prefectural government since the 40th year of Meiji and by Osaka municipal government since 23rd year of Showa (1948).
