Cattle were kept in the pasture around
here from the Heian period (794-1191). People
called it Ajifunomaki (the pasture of Ajifu).
We are able to find it in the old document
in the 8th year of Gankyo (884). It belonged
to the Tenyakuryo Nyugyuin (the branch of
cow breeding in charge of medical treatment
of the Imperial Court), offering dairy products,
cows and calves to the branch. The branch
took milk for medicinal purpose and returned
the aged cows to the pasture.
The other cattle in the pasture were
used
for farm and farms were spread gradually
in this area. |
