Legend has it that a descendent of SUEHIRO Jirozaemon after becoming a Buddhist priest, SHOKEN, built this temple on the historical remains of Mitsuya Castle built by KUSUNOKI Masatsura. On this site, three Hachiman shrines on the grounds were built during the Sengoku period in appreciation of the benevolent government of feudal lord MIYOSHI Chokei and the name MITSUYA (3 shrines) is derived from this. Today these shrines no longer exist but the remains of one of the stone god is found in the graveyard. |
