The Golden Triangle of Busan, Shanghai, and Osaka
The 21st century is The Century of Tourism and now
at last it can also be said that an Era of Great Interaction
has started in East Asia. Grasping that idea and with
deep historical, cultural and economical ties, the
3 cities of Busan, Shanghai and Osaka have come together
to create a "Golden Triangle" so as to promote cooperation
and tourism, and to bring in more travelers from outside
of the East Asia region.
It all started in October 2005 when the Busan-Shanghai-Osaka
Tourism Symposium was held in Osaka. At this meeting,
ideas were exchanged about the future of tourism and
cooperation in the East Asia region. In these exchanges
the symposium panel looked to inter-city cooperation
and advancement of relationships by proposing a framework
for the Golden Triangle.
Follwing the initial symposium, administrative leaders
and tourist officials from the 3 cities met and held
meetings to draw up the specifics of the Golden Triangle.
Then in October 2007 the leaders of the 3 cities gathered
for the Busan-Shanghai-Osaka Golden triangle Summit.
This was an international event to bring about such
initiatives as mutual promotion and an increase in
youth exchange schemes, which due to their great appeal,
were incorporated into the joint declaration statement.
To interact with those both inside and outside the
area, exhibitions were held in Busan, Shanghai and
Osaka where the 3 cities shared a stand and introduces
their collective appeal to the world. The 3 cities
then jointly exhibited at world's largest international
tourism fair in Berlin where they launched PR to try
to attract more tourists to the region. From now on
the 3 cities will actively work together to pursue
growth in the tourism sector and try to improve cultural
and economic ties in the region as a whole.
Increasing tourism means not only the rejuvenation
of the regional economy but also the promotion of
mutual understanding and the creation of a new culture
of understanding through inter-cultural exchange.
Furthermore, there are great expectations that this
initiative will help to connect the 3 countries in
the realization of world peace.
Even at government level, endeavors are being made
to enlarge the 3 country tourism initiative, known
as "Japan-China-South Korea Bin Bang in tourism".
Please keep an eye on this forward thinking initiative
which will be realized through city level exchanges
and the promotion inter-city relationships in the
Busan-Shanghai-Osaka Golden Triangle. Then visit the
vibrant and historical East Asian sightseeing cities
of Busan-Shanghai-Osaka, in each city you will find
charming places to fill your heart with memories.
