This shrine was created in 1737 by Jinbei Kagaya upon the land reclamation
for new rice fields in Kitajima. New rice field developers inevitably
established guardian shrines, and Jinbei was no exception, bringing the
guardian deity of water from his native Kishi Village in Ishikawa-gun,
Kawachi (modern-day Tondabayashi City).
The main shrine was destroyed by fire in 1835, but rebuilt four years
later. The enshrined deities are the aforementioned god of fire, Hitomaro
Kakinomoto, and the great Sumiyoshi god, and there are also subordinate
shrines in the grounds dedicated to the god of food harvests, Michizane
Sugawara, and Kanayamahiko. |
