Access : Approximately 200 m east of Hosoigawa Station on the Hankai Tramway
A subordinate shrine of Sumiyoshi Grand shrine and situated outside the
grounds of its larger counterpart, Asazawa Shrine's deity is Ichikishimahime.
Since olden times, the northern banks of the Hosoe River have been known
as Asazawa Ono; there were many marshes in the area, which was known for
its Rabbit-Ear Irises. Indeed, such was the popularity of the area, its
praises are sung in Manyoshu, Japan's oldest collection of tanka poetry.
Kakitsubata (Rabbit-Ear Iris) Park was restored in 1997. |
