Fukushima is a small ward located about 500 meters
west of JR Osaka station (Kita-ku), and surrounded by
the Yodo River to the north, and the Dojima River to
the south. The ward developed as a commercial district
close to the city centre. Transport is very conveniently
with main highways such as the National Highway Route
2 and the Naniwa-suji, and trains such as the JR Loop
Line,JR Tozai Line, the municipal subway Sennichimae-Line,
and the Hanshin Line all running through major parts
of the ward. In the south-west of Fukushima is the Osaka
Municipal Wholesale Markets, which are referred to as
Pantry of Osaka citizen. In the inner city, surrounded
by the main transport lines, there are areas where traces
of the past can be seen in gatherings of old Japanese
style houses and stone pavements. Many people in Fukushima
have lived there for a long time, and a prosperous community
has developed.
