Hirano River Flood Control Reservoir
The Hirano River Flood Control Reservoir is a tunnel (approximately 10 meters in diameter) running under arterial highways and designed to temporarily hold water as a way of mitigating the risk of flood damage affecting the southeastern region of Osaka City. This project began in 1981 and progressed to the point where the tunnel can hold approximately 360,000 cubic meters of rainwater. This project is expected to form an underground river extending all the way to the Kizu River.
Construction which will add the second inflow facility began in 2001 and finished in 2005 for the more effective river improvement.
