Road projects can be divided into several different types, including
those that result in the construction of new roads or in improvements
made to existing roads (new construction/reconstruction projects) and
those that are designed to maintain existing roads (maintenance projects).
The Public Works Division is charged with constructing and upgrading new
arterial roads and community roads, constructing new bridges and reconstructing
existing bridges, developing traffic safety facilities, repairing roads,
and various other tasks. With the diversification in the scope of road
functions last year, the contents of projects undertaken by this division
have been undergoing considerable change.
The Roads and Streets Division is busy with various projects of its own,
including the development of urban planning of roads (such as arterial
roads and footways) and projects designed to elevate railway tracks at
points of intersection with roads, and the development of an underground
pedestrian network. |
