Held quadrennially since its inception in 1987, the Melbourne / Osaka Double-Handed Yacht Race is world's only double-handed transpacific yacht event. As well as being a major international exchange event between the sister cities / ports of Melbourne and Osaka, the race also aims to contribute to the promotion of yachting.
The inaugural Melbourne / Osaka Double-Handed Yacht Race was held in 1987 to jointly commemorate the 120th anniversary of the construction of the Port of Osaka and the completion of the Osaka Hokko Yacht Harbour. Sailing between the sister cities / ports of Melbourne and Osaka, the race was the world's first transpacific yacht race without stopovers.
