Senbonmatsu Ferry Landing
At Senbonmatsu Ferry Landing, a ferry operates between Minami-Okajima 1-chome, Taisho-ku and Minami-Tsumori 2-chome, Nishinari-ku. During the Edo Period, this area saw heavy traffic consisting of foreign cargo ships moving in and out of the harbor. The shogunate sought to introduce maritime safety innovations and also built an embankment using enormous rocks in hopes of using it as a breakwater. The name "Senbonmatsu" can be traced to a row of pine trees that were planted above this embankment.
